Prickly Poppy

prickly poppy

About this pattern:

I am a huge advocate and supporter and participant of Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way. During on of my regular walks (highly suggested as part of the program) I noticed this really interesting stalky bush. I’ve seen these flowers before, they are striking in the spring. The flower blooms - look like sunny side up eggs! I had with me my absolutely favorite travel sized notebook and I drew the flower. The pickle poppy has fluttery petals that look like tissue paper. Looking at the sketch that came through brought me so much joy!

Weeks later, I was flipping through my sketches to find something to carve and this one jumped out at me. It was one of the first carvings that I really emphasized fine lines to create movement and a delicateness. From there I scanned it in and went with a minimal repeat to allow for the detailedness of the carving to really come through.
